The Overview
Our client was new to the world of property development. But, together with a few friends, they had decided to pool their finances and start their own property portfolio. They had little practical knowledge of property renovation, so partnered together with an established property contractor firm to handle the planning permissions, renovation and rebuilds.
We created two primary documents for our clients. The first, a suitable shareholders agreement between the individual founding investors, ensuring that we covered how each would invest and exit when appropriate. We dealt with how decisions would be made, and how disputes could be resolved.
Then we prepared a joint venture agreement between our investor clients and the property contractor, setting out roles and responsibilities, and making sure the contractor was accountable for getting the job done properly.
With the right legal contracts in place, our clients have gone on to successfully acquire and develop a number of sites.
